Whether you’re looking to lower your caloric intake, lose some weight or were talked into it by your significant other. Even if you have the will to eat better, acting on that will is another thing entirely. Finding out if something is completely free of anything unhealthy isn’t easy. And even if we never know, we’ve been getting pretty close. And guess what? This technology isn’t in a lab, doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and can be carried around in your pocket! Here are some five gadgets I read about that help with healthy eating, based off an article I read recently:
NIMA: Earlier this year, Forbes reported on NIMA, a portable technology developed by a crack team of the country’s top schools and organizations that can detect even the smallest trace of gluten. It costs $199, which isn’t too cheap, and comes with a companion iPhone app.
MyDX2: The tech startup CDx is dedicated to creating a device to help people consume everything cleaner. They’ve already released devices allowing users to test for contamination in their water and marijuana. Soon they’ll also be releasing MyDX2, which will help consumers detect the harmful chemicals in our food and water.
FOODsniffer: Have you ever wondered if that chili in your fridge is still okay to eat? This sensor “sniffs” food to see if it’s spoiled. Just point the sensor to the food, and it will perform a quick bio-organic test.
SCiO: The SCiO USB sensor instantly reads sugar, calorie and alcohol content in what we eat and drink. This technology has been around for a while to test oil, chemicals or sewage, but this is the first to offer the average consumer a “molecular fingerprint” of their food.
Smartphone: This isn’t’ news to anybody. There are countless apps you can download to keep your diet on track, worth at least several blog posts! Even a simple Google search on your phone helps answer any health questions you might have.
